We're working to create a world-class Airport for Melbourne
We recognise that our terminals provide the first and last impression of our city for visitors. We want Melbourne Airport to be a place Australians can be proud of and we are committed to improving the presentation of our terminals through a program of progressive redevelopment that enhances the passenger experience. This program includes refurbishing, modernising and expanding different parts of the traveller journey over the coming years.
Within the next three years we will enhance the look and feel of our primary arrivals areas in Terminal 2 (International Terminal) including upgrades to the ceiling, lighting and carpet. Our baggage collection areas in Terminal 2 will also be upgraded in stages.
We will carry out a variety of improvement projects across our terminals including the Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall. New escalators will be installed to connect pedestrians from the Arrivals Hall to outside areas, and the Arrivals Hall will be enhanced to improve its overall presentation. The plan is to transform the Terminal 2 Arrivals Hall into an attractive, spacious and relaxing place that provides an inspiring first impression of Melbourne.

What is happening with the road network in and around the airport and terminal princinct? Waiting 30 minutes at traffic lights is insane... that’s longer than other international hubs. Getting in and out of LAX is easier and that’s saying something...
What happened to the elevated road proposal, streamlining traffic? The Rail Link will help, but there will always be a percentage of people who drive to, around and from the airport... something has to be done. An airport in the South East of Melbourne, an increase in traffic at Avalon will, no doubt, have better/improved vehicular access.... watch out MEL...

To manage increasing pressure on the airport road network we are planning a number of road improvement projects over the coming years. Projects on the immediate horizon include planning for an express road link to Terminal 4 from the Tullamarine Freeway. This will provide more direct access to the Terminal 4 precinct. We will also be widening the main Airport exit off the Tullamarine Freeway and introducing parking and forecourt changes including a secondary pick up zone to support vehicle movements around the terminals. These projects are part of a larger-scale strategy that Melbourne Airport will implement over time to maximise the capacity of the overall airport road network.
